| Jarit Johnson to Drive for Fitz Motorsports at Memphis |
Johnson will make his NASCAR Nationwide Series Debut at Memphis Motorsports Park
Mooresville, NC Monday October 20, 2008
Fitz Motorsports and Jarit Johnson Racing, Inc. announced today that Jarit Johnson will pilot the no.22 Supercuts Dodge for the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis (TN) Motorsports Park. The car will also carry sponsorship from GermaneRED a precision machining and tooling company making headway into the motorsports industry. It will be the first-ever time driving the track and also the first entry for Johnson into the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Both Johnson and team Owner Armando Fitz are excited about starting this new relationship. “I have been watching Jarit for a while. Despite being the brother of a Sprint Cup Star he has been working hard to make it in this tough game on his own merit,” said Armando Fitz. “We met a few months ago and started talking casually. I was very impressed with his work ethic and his commitment and desire to race. I think Jarit will be a great fit for the team and our sponsors. I’m looking forward to working with him at Memphis.”
Johnson has been racing regularly in late models at Hickory Motor Speedway, where in the past few years he’s compiled 12 wins and several poles. He recently competed at Phoenix International Raceway in the Camping World West Series where he finished 14th with a part time limited funded team. Back in August Johnson impressed everyone by making a 27th place start at Pocono Raceway in the ARCA Series with no practice laps and no previous experience at the track.
Johnson started a fabrication company and has spent much of his focus the last few years building the new business. But he’s never given up on his true passion to drive.
“I can’t thank Armando enough for giving me a chance,” expressed Johnson. “I told him I just want to drive. I don’t care about becoming a millionaire or gaining fame. I just want to do what I love and that’s to race. I’ve always wanted a shot at racing in the Nationwide Series.”
“My goal is just to go out and put on a good show for Supercuts and GermaneRED and all the other sponsors that are supporting this event,” added Johnson. “I want to have a good solid run and go from there.”
The NASCAR Nationwide Series Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 drops the green flag at 2:30pm Saturday October 25th at Memphis Motorsports Park. Qualifying for the event is at 9:30am the same day. The 250 lap 187.5 mile race will broadcast LIVE on ESPN Classic.
